Today we closed the Seybold Publications Web store, so if you searched for it and ended up here, that was no accident. We closed the store because so many of our customers and subscribers told us they cannot use a store or shopping site through their company's Internet connection. Too many blocks.

So, if you want to subscribe to one of our paid newsletters: the Seybold Report or the Digital Publishing Report or order one of our special reports, just send us an e-mail and we'll be happy to send you an invoice. No shopping site required. And, soon we will have a catalog of our special reports and back issues to make it even easier to obtain content produced and published by the Joss Group.

If you are wondering what happened to the company called Seybold Publications, that corporate entity was shut down more than a few years ago by a previous owner of the newsletters. Ditto with Seybold Seminars.

Announcing the Digital Publishing Report!

A few weeks ago I posted pn this site the full text of something Jonathan Seybold wrote decades ago about the changes he saw in the publishing and printing industries. I left the post up at the top of the site while we were working on the first issue of our latest newsletter--the Digital Publishing Report--because of a few lines of what Jonathan Seybold said back then have been ringing in my ears lately. He said, "Just when you think something is settled, along comes something new that changes the picture completely."

Now, to be sure, digital publishing is not new news. In fact, as we mentioned in the first issue of the Digital Publishing Report (which you can get here, for free--just that first issue, mind you), even e-books aren't new. What is new, I think is the widespread intensity of interest in this topic from all directions in the industry and from the world at large. It is almost as if, when the world saw the iPad for the first time, a shockwave passed through the graphic arts industry. How wide the spread of the wave, how far it reaches, and what is affected, well, we are all going to have to find out together--in the industry. We will have our chances to ride the wave, too, I am sure.

So, I invited you, as a fellow graphic arts industry professional, to walk with the Joss Group as we make our way together and urge you to become a part of the Digital Publishing Report by subscribing, sending us article suggestions, press releases and poking us when we get it wrong and congratulating us when we get it right. We are all in this together.
